6.1 Discussion: Social Media and Me
This week, I opted to write a conversation piece about Miller Lite. On social media,
Miller Lite is rather proactive. They are active on Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
They often comment on Facebook (@millerlite), where they have 2,121,540 "likes" and
2,051,941 fans. The account @millerlite has 105,000 subscribers and 235 articles. Instagram
doesn't nearly see as much interaction from them as other networks do. With 6,305 tweets, they
have 229,000 followers on Twitter (@MillerLite). On their social media, Twitter appears to be
the platform with the most engagement. Miller Lite also has a YouTube page with 21,445
subscribers called Miller Lite, where they primarily post commercials. Information on their
products, gear that can be purchased, and company contact details are available on their website
(www.millerlite.com). They do expressly advertise contests and giveaways on their Twitter feed.
For instance, they held a competition with Coors Light in which the "winner" was required to
pay for a round of Miller Lite or Coors Light for everyone else. One round of Miller Lite was
provided "on the house" and a time, date, and bar were specified. I am unable to think of any
ways they could improve their social media marketing techniques at the moment. They are
well-known in the media, and whomever is in charge of posting on their pages is well-versed in
the goings-on in the industry.
