Learning Objectives
By the end of this module, you will meet these learning objectives:
Recognize the role of communication in directing change
Explain the process of effectively communicating the need
for change
Describe the methods of communication that encourage
change
Identify best practices to ensure continuity of change
management benefits
Module Overview
In previous modules, you learned about the importance of training and
communication. Effectively communicating the need for change is
significant for the success of change rollout and management. Change
stakeholders need to be convinced about the need for change. An
effective change management plan should include a communication
plan that specifies how the need for change will be communicated and
how the implementation plan should be explained to all stakeholders.
This module explains how change stakeholders—both employees and
managers—are more accepting and committed to change when they
are convinced about the benefits of the change. The module also
describes the different stakeholder interactions and explains how story
making and storytelling provide opportunities for sensemaking and
framing in organizations. Framing will help you tell a story from a
particular perspective. Stories and frames can create, maintain, and
resolve concerns regarding change.
In this module, you will learn about the sensemaking process and how
it is important for change implementors to manage the meaning of
messages by communicating effectively. Change implementors can
manage meaning more effectively when they can also manage
networks. When managing networks, stakeholders and implementors
monitor and participate in shaping relationships between those who
are impacted by or witness to the change.
One of your final tasks as an HR consultant is to create a change
management communication plan to help the leadership team
communicate and implement organizational changes effectively to all
stakeholders. In this module, you will complete the course project,
which includes creating a change communication plan and a letter
recommending strategies to help sustain the benefits of the
organizational change.
