The two forms of traditional marketing I have selected are TV and radio marketing. Baby Boomers are
more responsive to traditional marketing methods. Baby Boomers can be reached through TV
marketing. They respond well to infomercials and other TV Adds. Millennials watch more streaming
services such as Hulu and Netflix so marketing to them through TV would be harder. It would be best
to use radio marketing for that generation. When it comes to Gen X, like baby boomers- they also
enjoy watching TV so that form of traditional marketing is best for them. Gen Z is the hardest to
appeal to when it comes to traditional marketing because this generation responds mostly to digital
marketing due to them having internet access since birth.
An Innovative form of traditional marketing that I’ve came across is something that my church
implemented. We have a high number of older members, who due to covid, where not attending
Sunday Service as they would like. My church then decided to start streaming our Sunday services.
The service is streamed on Facebook (for those who are tech-savvy/ have social media) but it is also
streamed on a local channel where members can turn to and watch. Their decision to stream online has
even benefited me since it is easily accessible through my Facebook app, so I am able to enjoy the
sermon even when not attending in person.
For the two forms of traditional marketing methods I am choosing are, TV and Radio. For Baby
Boomers they might listen to Radio advertisements more than looking at the TV. For Millennials, I
think they would love to see Advertisements on TV more than radio. Generation X would much rather
prefer TV marketing and advertising rather than radio. I feel like Generation Y and Z would not prefer
the radio or tv option. I think they would prefer marketing options online and social media rather than
tv or radio because they are online more than listening to radio or watching tv. I think a creative
approach to TV marketing is using interactive advertising on these ads. Take the Super Bowl
commercial for Coinbase.com, this advertisement was good and creative. Using a QR code going
across the screen made people intrigued and wanted to scan it using their phones. This combined the
use of technology and traditional TV advertising. Using SEO is a good start for any company wanting
to improve their brand. We can start to connect keywords and links to make us rank higher in Google
Search which will allow us to get seen by the audiences searching for those results. In PR, this would
be great and would allow us to get seen by all those people who might still not have full trust in our
organization and in our company process for safety.
Sorry for the late post, I had some personal issues to attend. I choose TV and Print. c
TV
Baby Boomers- According to data gathered in early 2019, adults aged between 50 and 64 years
watched almost six hours of live and time-shifted television per day, while those between 18 and 34
spent less than two hours per day watching TV (Statista, 2021). But it looks like during the pandemic
many boomers were transitioning into online streaming platforms.
Generation X – This generation, like baby boomers, do enjoy having TV as one of their main media
consumptions. In comparison to baby boomers and Millennials, generation X tends to be more aware
of other media offerings and are willing to get their information from those other channels.
Generation Y/Millennials - While Millennials typically reach for digital first in their everyday lives,
they, like many consumers, still tune in to live television for breaking news and special events
(Nielsen, 2018). Millennials are the mobile first generation, meaning that they get most of their
information from their phones, but that doesn’t mean that they do not consume traditional TV. It looks
like the trend is that this generation consumes TV in special occasions.
Generation Z - Among Gen Z consumers in the U.S. (those currently aged 14-24), video games are
their No. 1 entertainment activity — and watching TV or movies at home comes in fifth (Spangler,
2021). This statement is not a surprise since this generation was born with the internet, so they tend to
look for digital experience’s mora than other traditional experiences.
Print
Baby Boomers – Being the oldest generation it should not be a surprise that this generation sticks to
traditional media as their main source of entertainment and news and that includes print.
Generation X – This generation has characteristics of baby boomers and millennials, but their
consumption of print advertisement and media is still big in comparison to millennials.
Generation Y/Millennials - This generation has proved that their main way of getting information is
their mobile. And they look for personalized experiences which are a limitation in the printing
environment. Meaning they do not consume print advertisement or news in a big scale. c
Generation Z - Gen Z is the generation with the least interest in print media. Their main focus right
now is the internet culture and all the media trends in it.
To be completely honest I do not consume any of this channel. To adapt my answer to one of these
channels, I’m going to use YouTube for example. YouTube is the “streaming” service that I consume
the most, and the most innovative form of marketing is the personalized marketing advertising I get on
the videos I watch. This has motivated me to visit different websites and socials and even buy products
that were presented to me via a commercial.
My ideas will be using our databases for the personalization of the consumer experience. This will
help us to target the needs and interests of the consumer and we can sponsor and recommend
experiences and products that might fit with their interests. It is something I do in my current job, and
it has been proven that it helps to boost the engagement and conversion. In regard to the SEO strategy,
it is important the incorporation of tags and keywords to provoke an increase in the traffic of our
website and socials provoking cross browsing across our platforms.
The two forms of traditional marketing channels that I have chosen are Television and radio.
Baby Boomers, the generation born between 1946 and 1964, are staying in the workforce longer than
their predecessors, and are thus still in the market for many products and services (Kelly, 2016). In
2019, data was released showing that the average time spend watching tv per capita in the U.S. from
2009 and 2019, and the 65- to 74-year-old demographic watched 4.48 hours of tv very day (Wiinanen,
2021). c In addition, baby boomers are the largest demographic cohort that listens to radio.
Generation X, adults born between 1965 and 1980, are the generation that was exposed to cell phones
in their young adult life and are still very active tv watchers. c In addition, this generation still listens to
much traditional radio, although in recent years, numbers have dropped due to the increase of
podcasts.
Generation Y, also known as Millennials, is the generation born in the 1980's and 1990's. They are
considered the Internet generation. They prefer online and text message communication, rather than
face to face interaction. Although still watches between 1-2 hours a day of television, but rather binge
watch show on Netflix. As for radio, they much rather download their music and listen to podcast
streams.
Generation Z (aka Gen Z, iGen, or centennials), refers to the generation that was born between 1997-
2012, following millennials. This generation has been raised on the internet and social media, with
some of the oldest finishing college by 2020 and entering the workforce (Meola 2022). This
generation hates television and rather watch video content, such as YouTube, instead of television, but
22% of Gen Z still listen to radio.
I personally do not watch much television these days but do spend much time in my car commuting;
therefore, I listen to the radio. Much of the radio that I listen to are morning radio shows. One
particular show that I listen to advertises a local ice cream shop with a catchy tune. Even though I
have been listening to this commercial for some time now, I just recently decided to go and try their
ice cream. I don't consider myself being easily influenced by ads, but this particular one caught my
attention by instilling the catchy tune in my head.
Conducting consumer research will help identify the preferences, attitudes, motivations, and buying
behavior of the target customer. Information can be gathered using various methods such as interviews
and surveys. The use of SEO will improve the sites visibility when people search for a service related
to ours on the internet.
Traditional Marketing Channels for Baby Boomers, Millenials, Generation X, Generation Y, and
Generation Z
The two traditional marketing for the Baby Boomers were mainly traditional televisions and radios,
and considering that they were new technologies, they were the best for reaching the target audience.
For the Millenials, televisions and radios are still the best marketing channels. The era followed the
introduction of televisions compatible with gaming while radio stations increased. Since Millenials
spend most of their time in the two media, they became favorable channels for reaching them.
Advertising channels for Generation X are television and radio (Slootweg & Rowson, 2018). Colored
televisions and the connection of radios with automobiles attracted the Generation X audience making
the channels the best for reaching the target audience.
General Y witnessed digital technology, which improved televisions and radios. Televisions
compatible with other devices emerged while radios became portable, thus becoming the best
marketing channels for the generation.
Televisions and radios are the popular marketing channels for Generation Z. TVs are digitalized to
include streaming services and make connecting with the internet easy. Radios have also advanced
significantly, and multiple radio stations play different music genres.
Innovative Approach I Have Encountered and How It Influenced My Purchasing
One of the traditional innovative marketing strategies I have encountered is the ad, "How Many
Licks?" involving a little boy asking an owl, a cow, turtle, and fox the number of times taken licking
the central part of a Tootsie Pop. The commercial attracted me to try the Tootsie Pop, and despite the
warnings from parents that the pop would harm my teeth, I kept pressing them to get one. I enjoyed
watching the advertisement, and finally, I got to taste the Tootsie pop, and the experience was
amazing.
Consumer Research and SEO
Customer behavior helps in understanding the consumers' perception of the brand. The top idea is to
integrate social media monitoring as the consumer method for monitoring consumers' behavior by
analyzing their social media interactions and posts in marketing the park. I will also conduct
marketing through SEO, whereby I will engage in creating stellar content about the organization and
the services it provides (Sharma, 2018). Some of the techniques I will use to create stellar content
include product reviews, blogs, and podcasts.
Comparing Traditional Marketing Appeals' Views
The traditional marketing appeals were similar; we suggested television and radio as the most
favorable media for marketing in all five generations. The difference between the two media was
technological advancement whereby the media were the same, but there was a difference in the
technology. However, my view on Generation Z differed slightly from Michael's as he claimed that
Generation X rrely used radios while I reasoned that they listened to radios but mainly for music and
not for news.
Comparing the Views on the Importance of Traditional Marketing
Innovation in marketing plays a significant role in attracting potential customers. We both had a
similar view on the significance of creativity and innovation. For instance, Elora suggested that Six
Flags commercials contributed to developing interest in the rides portrayed in the commercials, thus
compelling parents to take them to the park. Therefore, creativity and innovation contribute to
attracting more customers to acquire products or services of a particular organization.
