Learning Objectives
By the end of this module, you will meet these learning objectives:
Analyze organizational structures for innovative ventures
Describe the aspects of organizational culture that foster
innovation
Identify the five stages of high-involvement innovation
Module Overview
There are many organizational structures. Finding the right one that
will support innovation for your organization is not always easy or
straightforward. Some think only small groups can innovate, but this is
not true. Many large organizations can leverage their developed skill
sets by integrating innovative processes into the operations or having
their innovation teams work effectively with a variety of internal
departments. There are many elements that should be analyzed, from
the type of product to organizational expertise, when selecting the
structure that can best support your organization’s innovative desires.
In this module, you will learn about many examples of innovation and
the underlying organizational structures that supported them.
Equally important to organizational structure is organizational culture.
How can a company as large as Google continue to consistently focus
on innovation? Why do some small companies lose the ability to
innovate after they create their initial product? The ability to maintain
a culture that supports innovation and even supports innovative
attempts that fail is a challenge for all organizations, but one that
organizations must continue to strive to achieve.
In this module, you will explore organizational structure’s and culture’s
impact on an organization’s ability to innovate. Additionally, you will
continue the discussion you started in the previous module and submit
a module assignment where you will compare innovative approaches.
