It is hard to believe that we are in week ten for our class. It has been
a long an amazing journey. I am grateful for the experience and the
feedback in the discussions that we were able to share. I had a very
challenging semester with my family and work life being extremely
stressful and chaotic. I share this as a point of validation of the video
a few weeks ago that stated the importance of perseverance, Never
Give Up! Keep moving forward and do the best you can. That was
the best message for me at that time to keep moving forward and
now here we are at week 10.
What was your strategy for choosing incremental or discontinuous
innovation in Milestone One?
I looked at both options and determined that it would be best to
learn from what the company does well and capitalize on building
products that the customer want. Using an agile approach to the
innovation process will allow for the product to get into the hands of
customers/stakeholders faster and ensure it is what they want.
Incremental innovations allow the company to develop what is
currently in place and enhance measures to ensure the technology
meets or exceeds customer desire. Rather than leaping into the
technology blindly, we can look at current abilities and use expertise
in technology to continue to grow in the sensor development and
research. The benefits outweigh the risk for the incremental
innovations. There is a fantastic research and development team.
With energy and efforts in what has already been developed and
created, they can forge the way with the best options to connect to
other technology and provide the customer exactly what they are
looking for. Benefit is enhancement of current products. Ability to
put into place exactly what the customers are seeking and develop
something down the road with less problems. It allows the
opportunity to increase revenue to allow the opportunity to take the
steps to move into fully integrated systems for customers.
What were your reasons for selecting the processes for managing
innovation you used in Milestone Two?
The overall goal is to continue to innovate and expand our products
to serve the people. Using an agile product approach will allow the
company to use the self-managed technology team in place,
brainstorm enhancements around design, and launch new
developments in a shorter time. The team is flexible and looks at the
agile approach to save time, develop better solutions and products,
and empower the team to create products that meet the needs of
the people being served.
How do your recommendations for the organization structure
promote a climate for innovation in your project?
The recommendations create a climate for innovation because they
embrace flexibility and creativity. They look to the needs of the client
and place value on what they want rather than what the company
thinks they want. The approach allows for failure that invites the
company to consider what is another way? How can the failure
propel the company into the next idea that will be a success?
