10-1 Discussion: Reflection
I successfully obtained my undergraduate degree earlier this year from SNHU. I must admit I
was somewhat apprehensive about starting the MBA program. I believe that this program will
provide significant long-term advantages for both my educational development and
professional trajectory. In my current role as a leader, I have implemented the knowledge and
skills gained from this course to facilitate the growth and progress of my team through the use
of more effective communication. Gaining insight into personal leadership weaknesses,
formulating a strategic plan incorporating S.M.A.R.T. goals to transform these weaknesses
into strengths, implementing improved methods of interpersonal communication, and
effectively employing delegation techniques to facilitate the professional development of my
team are essential factors contributing to the enhancement of my leadership effectiveness.
One of the most significant obstacles encountered pertains to the capacity to envision myself
as a prospective senior executive within a bigger organization. When I completed the week 5
Journal assignment, I was able to better see my leadership style from a different point of view.
In the contemporary VUCA landscape, the ability to effectively navigate and respond to
various disruptions and obstacles is crucial for achieving desired outcomes. An effective
leader should consistently demonstrate a willingness to embrace and accommodate change,
promptly adjusting their approach to develop feasible strategies aimed at addressing
forthcoming issues. I am confident that the courses I complete in the MBA program will
provide me with the supplementary knowledge and resources necessary to thrive in this
VUCA environment.
The effectiveness of a leader is contingent upon their adaptability and ability to effectively
engage with their team. One of the primary challenges for leaders today is their ability to
acknowledge and embrace the distinct characteristics of present-day work environment. This
includes employees who work remotely, in a hybrid environment, or in person. As a result of
the global pandemic, executives have been pushed to restructure their communication
methods by utilizing platforms such as Zoom or Teams. During these sessions, leaders must
strategize the most effective approach to communicate their message, while maintaining
morale, engagement, and retention. Simplifying the message to enhance comprehension
among team members is a respectable approach to effectively manage the challenges posed by
the ongoing pandemic.
As I progress through the MBA program, I hope to acquire further knowledge on enhancing
my leadership skills by incorporating additional techniques that may promote the realization
of my long-term objectives. To develop my own skillset and give me the confidence I need to
achieve, I must understand the why behind the importance of using leadership tools to help
me focus on the areas that have been highlighted and solve those challenges. I need to keep in
mind that it’s important to prioritize developing my interpersonal skills and my capacity to
operate within a team. Continuing in this program, I believe, will help me learn more about
becoming an effective leader by the development of personal resources that can be utilized as
part of my Adaptive Leadership Toolkit. I intend to apply these techniques in my current
position to aid in my personal and professional growth.
