The job I chose to discuss is a Computer Support Specialist. This job
is likely one that I'll be applying for once I receive my Associate
Degree. I currently work for a managed services provider, and my job
title is Hospitality Support Tier 2 Agent. I have about four years of
experience at this post, so I'm confident I'll be able to find a higher-
paying Computer Support Specialist position once I receive my
degree.
I know this position is at the bottom of the IT chain, but I am okay
with that. I learn best with hands-on experience from the bottom up.
For this position, the employee must possess strong customer
service skills, as most of the time, you'll be working directly with
clients and other end users. Critical thinking and good listening skills
are a must. You are often the first point of contact and the face of
the company. It's crucial to be patient and sympathetic. Specialists
often help people who are frustrated with the software or hardware
they are trying to use. Most companies have options to learn and
grow within. It might be simple as a Tier 2 position, then Team Lead,
Supervisor, or Manager. I'd be interested in exploring these options
once the time comes.
