Based on my interaction health Information systems, these systems are as
significant as health care professionals to aid in delivering medical services. b
An example of a clinical information systems would be the Electronic
Medical Record system also known as EMR. Within EMR there is the
capability to record each medical episode of a patient within the health
system. Details such as allergies, active medications, immunization, medical
procedure, diagnosis, along with medical notes such as medical history, ER
visit notes, nursing notes during inpatient rounds, admitting physician notes
and notes of physician consultants. I believe that the various aspects of EMR
are essential as it gives the full medical history of the patient. It allows each
physician to go back into the medical records for a complete understanding of
other ongoing issues or prior diagnosis which will give for a better quality on
delivery and better accuracy in future diagnosis and/or avoidance of certain
medications due to underlying illnesses.
Technology diffusion is when users of technology advancements can become
adaptable to change due to the consideration of cost, safety, benefit, and risk.
An example of this is the fact that the internet was adapted faster than an
automobile due to “cost, accessibility, and familiarity with technological
change” (Clay Halton, 2021). I believe that the most important area of focus
should be safety. At various changes in governance and with the ever-
changing improvements in health care, there have been changes centered
around patient quality, which to me covers a focus on safety aspects of care.
The same can be seen with the Health Quality Improvement Act of 1986,
changes in both Medicare and Medicaid, The Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act of 1996 and the Affordable Care Act of 2010.
