I'm Jessica DelValle, and I was born and raised in the Bronx in New York City. I am a
mother of four children with two additional children and a soon-to-be wife. Although I don't
currently have any experience in the medical field, I've always wanted to work in the field of
medicine. By the completion of this academic year, I hope to change careers. Getting my
bachelor's degree will allow me to be able to tell my family, "I DID IT," if I decide not to change
my job route.
The growing use of virtual care and telehealth services in the US healthcare system is one
trend. Technological developments, the necessity of social separation during the COVID-19
epidemic, and rising consumer demand for easily available and convenient healthcare solutions
have all contributed to this tendency.
This tendency has the following three effects on financial planning in a healthcare organization:
1. Infrastructure Investment in Telehealth: Telehealth infrastructure, including encrypted
messaging platforms, video conferencing software, and remote monitoring equipment,
will require investments from healthcare companies. These expenditures can add up, so
careful planning and budgeting are necessary.
2. Modifications to Reimbursement Models: Healthcare companies may need to adjust to
shifting reimbursement structures as telemedicine adoption increases. As an illustration,
certain payers might pay for telehealth appointments at the same rate as in-person visits,
while other payers might pay less. It is imperative for healthcare businesses to remain
current with reimbursement regulations and modify their financial planning
correspondingly.
3. Possibility of Greater Patient Volume: Because telehealth makes healthcare services
more comfortable and accessible, it may lead to a rise in the number of patients. But this
greater volume can also result in higher expenses because more personnel or resources
would be required to support the telehealth program. Healthcare organizations should
make appropriate plans after carefully weighing the possible advantages and
disadvantages of using telemedicine to increase patient volume.
Finally, there are important ramifications for financial planning in healthcare organizations from
the trend of growing telehealth and virtual care services acceptance in the United States.
Healthcare companies can effectively embrace telehealth and offer their patients accessible,
high-quality care by thoroughly weighing the advantages and disadvantages of the practice and
making appropriate plans.
