The two organizational problems that I will use for the final project are
communication failure and interdepartmental conflicts. Communication plays an important
role in strengthening professional relationships as well as increasing the productivity of the
organizations (Adu-Oppong & Agyin-Birikorang, 2014). However, due to a number of
personal and environmental barriers, communication failures take place. One of the personal
barriers that give rise to communication failure is the personal value system and beliefs of
the individuals. I can reflect on a personal experience when I had experienced this problem
in the workplace. My team members and I were assigned a project to work on. However,
some of my team members believed that they were only to speak when asked. As two of the
members were very new to the organization, they had a fear of communicating with others.
Eventually, all these resulted in communication failure. Due to the lack of proper
communication and coordination, we were not able to complete the project as expected. It
limited us from getting the recognition and appreciation from the management that we
would have got if we could complete the project in a successful manner.
Interdepartmental conflict is another significant problem in organizations. Some of
the major reasons for the interdepartmental conflicts are the common resources and goal
differences (Bernard & Ashimi, 2014). Reflecting on my personal experience, I can
remember an interdepartmental conflict that occurred in my organization. The conflict was
between the manufacturing department and the sales department. In order to acquire a new
client for the organization, the sales department made a commitment to deliver the products
within a few days without consulting the manufacturing department. However, due to the
unavailability of certain raw materials, the manufacturing department was not able to meet
the promise made by the sales department. This, in turn, gave rise to interdepartmental
conflict and also affected the reputation of the organization in the market. Apart from past

experiences, these organizational problems are likely to have a significant impact on my
future career also.
Systems thinking plays an important role in dealing with real-world problems and
complexities (Arnold & Wade, 2015). It refers to the practice of examining as well as
improving the mental models in order to solve the problems better. It can also be defined as
a perspective of seeing as well as understanding systems as a whole instead of parts. It helps
in better connecting the different elements present within a system. The ability to view the
complete situation will enable me to address real-world problems better and find the most
appropriate solution.
My individual performance also has a significant impact on the overall system as
well as customer satisfaction. For instance, in the case of communication failure, I could
take the initiative to ensure that all the team members are coordinating and sharing
information relating to their progress. This can help in overcoming the communication
barrier and ensure optimum success of the project. Similarly, in other organizational
problems also, my individual performance can help in increasing customer satisfaction and
positively impact the overall system in the workplace.
