Module 5 Activity:Reflection:self
Self Reflection:
I was the type of individual to make decisions without much thought or
based on what I knew or what others taught me. I am currently think before I
make decisions. This course has taught me so much about choices. I think
about all options and consequences of the actions I chose. I have ptsd and I
use meditation and breathing techniques to calm down. If I am around a lot
of people who are loud I can not comprehend what people are saying.
This class has taught me so much about Mental illness and substance abuse.
I have learned that substance abuse can cause mental illness in many areas
like drug induced schizophrenia disorders, panic disorders and
more.Perception is the way individuals interpret and process internal
information or stimuli differently. Some individuals may pay special
attention to one thing while ignoring others. My framework of perception
most of the time is me rushing to get things done. I work two jobs and go to
online college so I find myself rushing to get things done . Since starting this
class I have been working on going slow and thinking about the information I
have and if I do not have any then I research. Examining my bias has altered
the way I perceive the world. I now know when I am being bias. This course
and a cultural awareness course helped me so how bias I was in many ways.
There were certain nationalities that I thought were terrorists just because of
the head wraps they wore and the country they were from and also I thought
the Muslim religion was terrorists also. I have since learned how wrong I was
and now I do not judge on how individuals dress or the type of religion they
prefer. I see how I looked at certain neighborhoods and how I was afraid to
walk around because I thought everyone was living in poverty and on drugs.
I now realize the neighborhood you live in doesn’t defy who yoj are or the
decisions you make. Critically analyzing wellness can influence substance
abuse and mental health in many areas . Studying wellness might inform
your understanding of my next big topic of substance abuse and mental
health. Studying wellness in substance abuse and mental health will help to
understand many things like addiction and how if happens before the
individual even realizes it. It helps to understand how wellness incertain
communities is more likely to happen and how poverty is linked to a greater
percentage of mental disorders connected to drug use . Wellness is a topic
that is very important and I look forward to learning more throughout this
course.
