Wellness of health in terms of mind, body and soul. Wellness is how healthy you feel
overall. According to Kirkland, “Words become buzzwords because they capture something
particularly salient about a culture at a moment in time and come to stand in for wide
agreement about how something should be characterized. Wellness captures the sense
that the era of combating diseases has given way to a more complex problem of success in
modernity: living well, since so many more of us live long lives, entirely avoiding the
diseases and accidents that killed our ancestors” Wellness is a buzzword now in all sectors
of life. People want to be well in their personal life and companies want employees to have
wellness at work. This notion is that people who are working towards wellness are more
beneficial to the employer.
As a coach and mentor to high school students and athletes it is important that I not only
discuss the physical aspects of wellness with my students but also to stress the mental
importance. I need students to understand that wellness means more than just hydrating
and sleeping well but also to learn how to cope and manage feelings. When you overall
wellness is in check you not only a better student, and athlete but an overall more positive
person
