1. Overview
The Statue of Liberty was a joint effort between France and the United States, intended to
commemorate the lasting friendship between the people of the two countries. The Statue of
Liberty was given to the United States and erected atop an American-designed pedestal on a
small island in Upper New York Bay, now known as Liberty Island, and dedicated by President
Grover Cleveland in 1886. Today, the Statue of Liberty remains an enduring symbol of freedom
and democracy, as well as one of the world's most recognizable landmarks. (Editors, 2009).
When Gustave Eiffel's company built Paris' most recognizable monument for the 1889 World's
Fair, many regarded the massive iron structure with skepticism. Today, the Eiffel Tower, which
continues to serve an important role in television and radio broadcasts, is considered an
architectural wonder and attracts more visitors than any other paid tourist attraction in the
world.(Editors 2011).
2. Impact the Audience
The theme of the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower should impact the world. The Statue of
Liberty would honor the U.S. centennial of independence and friendship with France. The Eiffel
Tower has been a powerful and distinctive symbol of the city of Paris, and an extension, of
France. It impressed the entire world by its statue and daring design, and symbolized French
know-how and industrial genius.
3. Evidence
The evidence is found on the impact of the audience. The statue is a symbol of friendship,
however, the symbol of welcome to the world's tired and "huddled masses" that is today. (Ha, T.

2017). The Eiffel Tower is the main exhibit of the Paris Exposition of 1889. It was constructed to
commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution and to demonstrate France's industrial
prowess to the world. (Palerma, E. 2017).
4. Personally
I have chosen the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower as my theme because they both have
this beautiful scenery. One day I would like to see the Statue of Liberty because I have heard that
when you go to the torch, you could see all over New York, and it is beautiful on the inside. The
Eiffel Tower is located in the city of love, Paris. It is full of romance and a lot of history.
5. Studying the Humanities
Humanities can be used to realized differing interpretations of life and history. Studying the facts
of the past helps to understand literature of the past. The humanities allow people of different
cultures to communicate and understand common pasts but present differences. (Roth, R.).
6. Humanities
Humanities are those branches of knowledge that concern themselves with human beings and
their culture. The humanities include the study of all languages and literatures, the arts, history,
and philosophy.
