Mental Health Counselor. After reading Chapter 7, it give me the
insight of how to approach and interact with a client as a helper to
them. This role listen to a clients reason for being in counseling and it
also gives an estimate time to spend with a counselor to cover all the
needs for their counseling. In this job it is the helpers role to be in full
attention to the client. Greeting the client in a positive manner to help
the client relax in the atmosphere and to be able to look at the helper
face to face and have a good idea and impression of who the client is
with. The helper needs to show that their focus is on the client and
the kind of counseling needed for the client. A Mental Health
Counselor has the job of assessing the client, providing client in
education, maybe at some point conducting family groups with
relatives, working closely with your clients needs, identify problems,
troubleshooting social challenges and have referrals for further needs
to a more professional help then counseling can provide. The goal is
to be the helper a client can reach out to for support and
encouragement.
