The healthcare provider shortage has clear adverse effects on the
industry. Not only are there obvious quality issues that are created
due to the shortages, federal rulings become difficult to adhere to.
The healthcare shortages create fatigue to providers and staff that
are overworked. This fatigue leads to medical errors, which
potentially violate several federal rulings. The Health and Safety
discuss the effects of fatigue in their quote; “Fatigue results in slower
reactions, reduced ability to process information, memory lapses,
absent-mindedness, decreased awareness, lack of attention,
underestimation of risk, reduced coordination etc. Fatigue can lead
to errors and accidents, ill-health and injury, and reduced
productivity” (HSE, para. 3).
