When it comes to the topic of universal health care, there has been a lot of
push back from people from all angles of the USA. For one Americans have
seen the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) also known as Obamacare.
Many Americans feel that the ACA would be a representation of how
universal healthcare would look in America. Many do not want the
government to meddle in their affairs more to include healthcare. Many
studies have been conducted on the topic of universal healthcare, and there
seems to be a common fear of raised taxes. A recent proposal for universal
healthcare recently included options such as a 7.5% payroll tax plus a 4%
income tax on all Americans, with higher-income citizens subjected to higher
taxes (Zieff, 2020). /

Another fear is how the USA healthcare system is not equipped to handle a
universal healthcare system. Many fear that there will be even longer waiting
times for patients to be seen. This only is only made worse by the fear of no
new medical innovations and entrepreneurship. Currently privatized
healthcare has led to many new innovations in healthcare. There are many
fears and this is why I feel that we are nowhere near to being closer to
universal healthcare in this USA.
