I have been a part of two healthcare mergers while working at a
healthcare organization. I owned a part of the patient registration
piece, and my first starting point as the project manager was evaluating
the policies and procedures against my organization's policies and
procedures. Once I understood the differences, I would create a
presentation to show the changes from the current process to the new
process and why the changes were needed. Being transparent and
explaining the differences helped employees accept the new changes.
As a project manager, always document the reasoning for any decision.
I cannot tell you how often I would be getting ready to go live and be
pulled away into another immediate need and need to pass the torch to
another manager. Having the documentation prepared and stored for
the next person to read is important. It can help them get caught up and
understand some of the reasoning.
