6-1 Discussion: Global Manufacturing and Asia
There are various costs in regards to how humans and the environment interact as the behaviors and
activities of humans have and still are causing great impacts such as pollution on the environment. We
see from viewing the video, "China's Toxic Smog," that due to extreme levels of pollution in Beijing in
2017 warned against going outside in the snow due to concerns that it may be dangerously
contaminated. In 2017, the city from the video was considered the most polluted city in the China as
well as the world and we see from the video that the population struggles with the impact of the toxic
air on their respiratory health. It is also believed that pollution caused over a million premature deaths
each year (YouTube, 2016). It is undeniable how using biomass and fossil fuels affects human health.
Particulate matter causes respiratory disorders that vary from slight discomfort to chronic illnesses like
asthma when it is inhaled. The pollutants also impact livestock and crops that ingest toxins. Everyone
who is exposed to the particulate matter will be at some amount of danger, but the elderly, those in
poor health, and children are often more vulnerable to negative health risks that might result in illness
and death. According to the World Health Organization, nearly seven million people died (one in eight
total deaths globally) as a result of exposure to air pollution. This research demonstrates that air
