ENG 123
3-1 Project Draft One
1. Purpose of Research
a. The purpose of my research is to deep dive into the benefits of a 4-day work week
instead of a 5-day work week.
2. Research Question
a. How will a 4-day work week affect everyone who works a 9 to 5pm, 5-day work
week?
b. A 4-day work week affects most people positively because they tend to delegate
their work better and use their time more productively at work. As for their mental
and physical health, it improves with that extra day off because they have more
personal time, they get to run their errands without feeling like their weekends are
rushed, they have more time to spend with their family, and they could work on
other things that interest them.
3. Biased Sources
a. The presence of bias within my sources impacts it in a positive way. The reason
why I say positive is because any argument that goes against my research, there’s
another article that proves it wrong or shows a different side of the argument. Bias
impacts on the reliability of research findings so it assists my argument with more
research and providing valid sources to back up my research.
4. Diverse Perspectives
a. There are many voices within my sources that are from different ranking jobs and
positions.
b. These diverse perspectives support my topic because they provide examples of
how a 4-day work week benefits them better than a 5-day work week. There have
been experiments that were done with businesses within the U.S and other
countries to see how a 4-day work week affected everyone. My source (Cuadra et
al., 2023) provides an explanation of how a global fundraising resource
Kickstarter that’s among 200 companies tested out a 4-day work week in April of
2022 and nine months later they permanently changed their schedule to 4- day
work weeks. Their director of project management stated that her work week
looks different from their 5-day work week but they don’t mind staying that extra
hour during the week so they don’t have a workload to complete at the end of the
week. As for my other source (Delaney et al., 2022) they have many voices from
employers to employees in different countries and they provide their research
findings and opinions from those people who were part of the 4-day work week
experiment.

6. Sources Supporting Topic
a. Part A : (Delaney et al., 2022) This source speaks on an experiment that took
place for the 4-day work week for 8 weeks, has many different voices, and
provides feedback from both the employer, managers and employees who
participated in the experiment. They received different feedback from everyone
but most people stated how they loved the extra time off and were able to actually
enjoy their weekends with their families and how they didn’t mind working hard
the 4 days and enjoying the last 3 days.
Part B: This source is credible because the objective of this article is clearly
stated and their research is precisely explained. They provide resources from
different articles, provide an in depth explanation of the experiment that took
place for the 4-day work week and clearly relayed the feedback from each peer
that participated in the experiment.
Part C: This source is relevant to my research because it explains how a 4- day
work week affects the workers, provides an experiment that was conducted for
the 4-day work week, and provides other sources of information that provided the
effects of the 4-day work week.
b. Part A : (Cuadra et al., 2023) This source is about how a huge international
company partakes in the 4-day work week experiment. They received feedback
from their employees and the managers (this source is directly from a manager
from the company who delegates the work). It touches on the amount of work
being done, how much more productive and attentive everyone is and how
everyone enjoys that extra day off to get their personal things done since everyone
is working and they won’t have to worry about the busyness of the weekend. Part
B: This source is credible because it's coming from a manager whose company
partook in a 4-day work week experiment then later permanently implemented the
4-day work week. It also provided examples and other sources to back up their
research.
Part C: This source is relevant because it speaks on how an international
company experimented with the 4-day work week and then permanently
implemented the 4-day work week for everyone. That provides a clear argument
that the 4-day work week affected everyone positively and backs up my research
question.
c. Part A : (Denis et al., 2022) This article touches base on the positive outcomes
from different businesses around the world that partake in a 4-day work week
regardless of the workload, they state how most if not all workers enjoy the extra
day, don’t feel burnt out at the end of the week and decrease stress levels. It also
speaks on how a 4-day work week benefits businesses because it helps recruit
loyal and talented employees and increases productivity, better quality of work
and efficiency within the business.
Part B: This source is credible because it provides feedback from other sources
that partook in a 4-day work week and that is currently working/ owns a
business that implemented the 4-day work week. It also provides examples from
different voices and job rankings and their feedback from the 4-day work week.
Part C: This source is relevant to my question because it agrees with what I’m
researching and provides the positive effects it has on everyone and the
businesses.
