IBM Watson is a cognitive computing system and a technology platform. It
contains a large number of techniques in the fields of information analysis,
natural language processing, and machine learning, which can help decision-
makers find answers from data [1].
Watson interacts with users and understands and responds to users' problems
through natural language understanding technology. It can process structured
and unstructured data. Watson can reveal patterns and relationships through
data. By reasoning, analyzing, comparing, generalizing, and summarizing
pieces of knowledge, Watson can gain deeper insights into the data. Watson
can extract key information from big data for learning, and learn through
accumulated experience in the interaction, optimize the model, and make
progress [2].
Watson uses natural language processing extensively, from building a body of
knowledge to analyzing user questions, and searching for and presenting
answers to them. Watson mainly applies natural language processing in the
following areas, such as conversation, natural language classifier, natural
language understanding, language translator, personality insights, document
conversion, tone analyzer, retrieval, and ranking. I haven’t used the
capabilities of IBM Watson in my job. But I plan to use natural language
understanding for the analysis and retrieval of professional articles.
