SROs handle crime prevention, ensuring
safety, problem solving, and being a social-
emotional support to some people. SROs
are trained to work in school settings and
to are sworn law enforcement officers.
An SRO should have knowledge within
social media to be able to post updates
and sharing about school events. They can
also be able to stay informed about any
issues and come into play when necessary.
Active listening is important to build trust
and support so students can feel safe,
communicate and express concerns.
Cultural awareness is important to be able
to help with equity and injustice in the
school system.
Restorative Justice came about in the
1970’ which seeks to bring victims of
crimes into the justice system.
Furthermore, this is an opportunity for
offenders to take accountability and
communicate their harm to others to
understand the wrongdoings they have
caused. This can pave a positive way
forward and can be the first step to
rehabilitation.
Restorative Justice offers an opportunity
for juveniles to take accountability.
Restorative justice has significantly
reduced recidivism compared to
traditional approaches. This is an
alternative approach to addressing crime,
focusing on repairing harm, and restoring
relationships. This benefits both as it
improves public safety and helps youth
with education and behavioral health.
A JPO handles youth while they are on
probation or parole. They can make
announced or unannounced visits to
juveniles in the justice system. JPO’s make
sure you are abiding court orders and that
you have the resources needed that forms
a better pathway. JPO’s show up to court
and can provide documentation of the
progress and issues that may have
occurred. These officers work with many
under the age of 18.
JPO’s can track one’s progress and if
behavior has significantly got better while
in a detention facility, youth may be
released early on parole. These officers can
prevent youth from committing further
crime in life. With help of these officers,
one can get rehabilitation resources and
counseling. JPO’s can make
recommendations to the court based on
risk of recidivism and needs.
Problem solving and active listening are
important to be able to analyze and show
outcomes for situations. It’s always
important to focus and understand one’s
feelings and be able to show support and
trust. In today’s world, JPO’s should know
how to navigate social media to be able to
watch social media activity and address
risks. It is important to know that juveniles
come with diverse backgrounds and
should be treated with equity and so youth
have the proper support and resources.
Law enforcement plays a big and vital part
when it comes to this impact based on
their decisions for students that often
There can be seven phases in a juvenile
court process which can be the arrest
process, juvenile petition, detention
I think an important reason for separating
juveniles and adults is so peer pressure
and more negative influences do not affect
