I must admit I was completely unfamiliar with the business model
canvas before this module. However, watching the provided video in
our resources helped me understand that "the business model canvas
— as opposed to the traditional, intricate business plan — helps
organizations conduct structured, tangible, and strategic
conversations around new businesses or existing ones" (Osteralder,
2013). The nine segments in this concept are beneficial to my
proposed business model, and I feel they will help refine it to be the
best it can be. With that in mind, I will address the following
questions:
1.) Which of the segments do I think I can complete immediately?
2.) Which segments do I think might need more work?
3.) Are there any factors or segments I had not considered so far?
Which ones? Explain.
1.) I think the obvious choice for me would be value proposition, key
activities, key resources, cost structure, customer relationships, and
customer segments. Since I did not mention it already, I am doing my
new business venture based on Tesla, inc with regard to their
renewable energy side of the business. The listed segments are
something I feel I can obtain fairly quickly and within an efficient
amount of time.
2.) The segments that stand out to me the most in terms of needing
more work are distribution channels, revenue streams, and key
partners. The reason I identified these segments was that something
as complex as renewable energy is going to need the opportunity for
growth and implementation. Where we go from here in lies the issue.
Having mapped out sites and establishing contractual agreements
with foreign partners will be the first step to this strategic planning
for our project but does serve as an unknown at this point in time
3.) I have considered all of the segments to the best of my knowledge.
However, I would say cost structure and key partners are ones that I
need to keep a close eye on and spend more time thinking about.
How the money will be allocated to this project and return a profit
and who our customers will be at the consumer and enterprise level
will also be important information. So, those are just a few ideas
floating around in my head, but I'm sure I will figure it out and come
up with something. a
