• The primary organ system selected is the cardiovascular system, while the
secondary organ system selected is the respiratory system.
• The cardiovascular and respiratory system has close interaction with each other.
Both the organ systems work together in order to provide sufficient oxygen to the organ
tissues. Oxygen is essential for the functioning of the cells. The air that the living
organism breathes in is first held in the lungs and then transferred to the lungs. The
heart circulates the blood and pumps oxygenated blood to the body from the lungs.
• The circulatory system, as well as the respiratory system, also work together in
order to remove the carbon dioxide that is known as metabolic waste.
• The respiratory and cardiovascular systems work together in order to maintain
homeostasis (Respiratory and Circulatory Functions, 2019).
• The cardiovascular system is involved in the transport of blood as well as other
materials. It brings all the supplies to the cells, takes away the wastes, and separates
oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood.
• On the other hand, the gas exchange takes place in the respiratory system. It
picks the oxygen from the air inhaled and expels water as well as carbon dioxide.
• Coronary heart disease is a common disease that affects the cardiovascular
system.
• Coronary heart disease results due to the accumulation of the atheromatous
plaque on the artery walls that supply myocardium (Nason, 2008). The individuals
affected with the disease usually do not show any symptoms until affected by a sudden
heart attack.
• Coronary heart disease can be prevented if the risk factors such as high blood
pressure, stress, tobacco smoking, high blood cholesterol, obesity, physical inactivity,
and others can be controlled (Al Hamarneh, Crealey & McElnay, 2011).

• Better knowledge, as well as an understanding of the disease, can help the
patients in availing the required medical care early and enhancing the overall outcomes.
