As an accountant, I work with the general ledger and prepare reports
summarizing the results of the organization’s activities. To mitigate
risk the only ones allowed to make journal entries include the
controller and the two accountants. We have an accounting
subsystem in place which update the general ledger by means of
summary journal entries that represent the results of all transactions
that occurred for the month. (Romney, Steinbart, Summers, & Wood,
2020) We have to make sure that our general ledger and SAP are
balanced every month. SAP is a good AIS since it gives the company
an audit trail, it has when it was posted, by whom, and a backup of
why the entry was made. We also do a weekly scorecard. A balanced
scorecard is a management report that measures four dimensions of
organizational performance: financial, internal operations, innovation
and learning, and customer perspectives. (Romney, Steinbart,
Summers, & Wood, 2020) A scorecard gives managers a way to track
the company’s performance. Scorecards usually have the company’s
goals compared to the actual for the week, it gives managers a good
comparison. Scorecard goals for the company should take into
consideration the organization’s unique strengths and weaknesses.
