Let me first begin by apologizing for the lateness of this post. The
complexity of this topic really challenged me to think about all
perspectives before attempting to answer this question.
After careful consideration I believe that it is important to be a
theologically informed Christian for two major reasons. Those are: (1)
being theologically informed allows a Christian to develop a deep
understanding of the text. (2) Being theologically informed allows a
Christian to deliver an accurate and effective account of Christ to others
whether Christian or non-Christian.
As Christians living by a book that contains teachings that existed before
our time can be troublesome if not handled correctly. That is why
Christians today must be theologically informed. To be theologically
informed means that one is dedicated to developing a deep
understanding of the cultural, historical, and theological implications of
the Bible., ,Since many things from the times of the Bible either no [1]
longer exist or exist in a much different form then it is imperative to
understand the context so that the proper connections can be drawn to
modern society. One very beneficial way this happens is by understanding
that there are different genres in the Bible and because of these different
genres the books must be read differently in some cases. For example,
one cannot approach the book of psalms the same way they would
Exodus.[2],This is mainly due to the fact that Psalms is written as poetry
while Exodus is a history book. Therefore, when reading Psalms a
