THEO 626
ESSAY:E FINALE ASSIGNMENTE INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
The final essay provides an opportunity to demonstrate awareness of key biblical and
theological concepts considered in the reading and study during the last three modules. An
assessment such as this serves as a half-way point between ‘in class’ timed essays (where the
student faces time pressure and lack of sources) and a full research paper (where the arguments
of the course texts might be only slightly considered). Because you are using the course texts
and outside resources, expectations of content are obviously higher than an ‘in class’ essay. But
they are lower than a full research paper, both in time and resources used.
INSTRUCTIONS
• Background: Sanders summarizes Plantinga as modeling the evangelical task of
thinking about the Trinity as consisting of 1) raw material, 2) patterns of reflection, and
3) pressure.
• Using this framework, prepare an essay comparing and contrasting the perspective of
Sanders and Feinberg on the Trinity. Be certain to include:
o The most significant contribution(s) each one makes
o How each one fits (or does not fit) this pattern as originally laid out by
Plantinga, and
o How such a vision of the Trinity may aid the church in both theological and
practical ways
• It is not necessary to divide the essay into these three ‘points.’ But each one should be
fully answered. The essay is to be between three and four pages in length. Course texts
and outside resources are to be included, but the essay must be entirely your own. The
outside resources should help place the evaluation in a fuller context. These however
should supplement and not replace the primary task of comparing Sanders/Feinberg.
• Edit for typos, spelling, grammar, and style based on current Turabian formatting
(which includes a title page, footnotes, and proper page numbering).
Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
