There several theories and views about the creation of humanity. They can range from the
creation of man from God to the creation of this world and the humans living here from the big
bang. Two alternative theories that I am going to talk about in this paper are the theory of robots
and animals.
In Millard J. Erickson book, Introducing Christian Doctrine, he talks about how humans
to act like robots at times. Erickson mentions that “we perform everyday tasks for ourselves and
for our bosses if we are employed to have the same strengths and energy to perform better than
the average human.” (2015) Humans tend to act like robots when they are sick, stressed, dealing
with problems at home, or the loss of someone special. People put just enough effort to go
through the day and to pretend that everything in normal. Acting like a robot for a long time is
not good the human body and mind. Also, people can treat other people like robots. Sometimes
they tend to forget that they are surrounded by people and treat them as if they are machines.
Erickson also talked about how people tend to treat others as if they are only of value if they are
useful to them and what they are doing at that time. (2015) In a business, the owner wants
everything to work in the business as a well-oiled machine. But sometimes they can forget that
the people who are working for them have lives out side of work. They want them to stay healthy
so that they can work efficiently, not because they actually care about the person. This way of
treating people is the wrong way to treat them. All humans were created in the image of God and
people should treat each well because they want to, not because they are obligated to.
The other view is the view about how people are classified as members of the animal
kingdom. How Erickson explains it in his book is that humans can think and behave like those of
animals with positive reinforcement. But doing this degrades our view as creatures created in the

image of God. God gave humans free will and spirit, which he did not give to animals. Just
because humans may act as animals at times, does not mean that humans are the same as them.
Genesis 1:26-27 states, “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our
likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock
and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. So, God created
mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created
them.” (NIV) God gave humankind the purpose of spreading his Word around the world, so that
one day everyone may know His love. This is the biblical view on humanity. Each person born in
this world is different from everyone else and God gave them gifts that help people glorify His
name. Christians something tend to forget that people all have their own calling and can lead
people to different paths in life. One thing that people tend to always think about is their purpose
in life and what does God have planned for their life. In the bible, God tells us our purpose in life
and that is the Great Commission. The Great Commission can be found in Matthew 28:19-20.
This verse states, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (NIV) God
created man to glorify Him and all that He does. By having people spread the Word of God to
people who do not know Him, they are doing what God wanted them to do. Letting people know
that humans are created in the image of God, tells them that there is more to life than what they
see around them.
There are similarities and differences between the different views of humanity. With the
animal and robot views, they both miss out on that humans are creations made by God. Both
animal and robot views deal with how people act. But with the biblical view, it explains that

there is a greater being who made humans and the world they live in. The differences between
these views are far greater than their similarities. People tend to only believe things they see with
their eyes, which gives them more of an earthly viewpoint on humanity. Therefore, they explain
human actions as either animalistic or robotic. With the biblical view, humans created in the
image of God, we were also created with free will, which allows for people to think for
themselves. He also gave people individual gifts to help them spread the Word of God and to
help the people around them. This view gives a better explanation of why people may act
differently from time to time. The biblical view on humanity is great in a sense that people know
that they do not have to face the hardships of this world alone.
