Biblical Worldview Essay
Introduction
The Bible reveals to us that God is the creator of all things. As the ultimate creator, He is
intentional in His design. While we can see that God was innovative in all of His creation, He
was especially intentional and creative when it came to the creation of mankind made in His own
image. I chose to pursue a career in psychology, specifically as a counselor, not only because of
my fascination with mankind and the human mind, but also to help others seek truth. Psychology,
at its core, has the opportunity to speak truth into others. I want to find my truth from the Bible,
then in turn use that knowledge to help others do the same. Psychologists deal with people’s
problems every day. In order to help others with those problems I want to look to the Bible to see
all it has to say about how to deal with all kinds of issues. In order to be able to understand
people’s problems and do lifechanging works for them we need to start by looking at the
beginning of creation.
Creation and Continuing Involvement
God did not just create and leave, God created and stayed. Not only do we see the
existence of a creator in the intricacy and order of our surroundings, but we see Him still
working in it. God can be seen throughout His creation whether it be in a miraculous act, an
answered prayer, or simply in the continuation of the circle of life. God is here and presently
involved ad seeking after every person. The bible offers evidence that God is in our spirits and
present. Psalms 139:7-12 says, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your
presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will
guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me, and the

light become night around me, even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like
the day, for darkness is as light to you”(NIV). Gods spirit never leaves us even when we think it
has. He is still there within us seeking us out. We can see that “God’s presence is good news-as
the right hand that holds me fast rather than the panoptic gaze that undermines any possible sense
of personal integrity- is a consequence of the fact that Gods presence to us is rooted in God’s
presence to Gods self as Trinity: the mutually productive presence of the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit in self-giving and sustaining love”(Mcfarland 49). This is one reason why we can be sure
that God didn’t leave His creation to fend for themselves, but that He instead is present and
watching over His children.
However, some people argue against this doctrine and claim that God created everything
and everyone with what they need to survive on their own, and then left. This popular view is
known as deism. However, deism like science, values intellect and devalues emotions. The deist
God is easy for science to understand because it goes along with their form of thinking. Most of
the word takes on a deistic mindset when it comes to the belief that God is still involved in our
world. Unfortunately, they are not paying attention, or giving credit to God when they see the
beauty of nature, the unexplainable healing, or the movement of an angel. God is here, we just
have to look in His word in order to understand His character and realize that His character is
personal.
Vocation/Job
When it comes to Christian psychology specifically, knowledge and truth are big themes.
Understanding where truth comes from is important when determining truth in the work place,
especially when it applies to other people. When God created mankind, he created us with the
ability to discern and think critically. We were given powerful minds that not only can be used to

understand Gods Word, but also to be able to observe God around us. 2 Peter 1:3 says, “His
divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of
him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (NIV). The bible can be used as a tool for
psychologists when determining the best form of healing. The goal is to try and get mankind as
close as possible to the pace we used to be before the fall.
As a Christian counselor my people interaction will be affected by the belief in Christs
involvement with His creation. A belief that God is actively involved with His creation will
affect where I seek my truth, how I treat people, how I view their salvation and eternal
destination, and how a belief in God working in them and alongside them looks like. John 8:32
says, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (NIV). It is understood that the
original meaning of this verses does not specifically relate to psychology and the vocation of
counseling, but it can most definitely be extended to the psychologist's search for truth
(Habenicht, 2000). A Christian psychologist has to be able to determine truth from error well in
order to be of best help to patients seeking truth.
Conclusion
God is the creator of the universe and is actively involved in His creation. We can see this
by simply looking at life around us in the day to day experiences. The bible promises us that not
only is God the ultimate king, but a personal God who stays with and helps his children. We can
trust God to lead us through life’s struggles and hardships. As a future counselor I can trust that
God cares about my patients and is present in their healing. I can hold onto the belief that God is
working not only in my life but in the lives of those who I counsel.
