Paul reminds us in Romans that we must avoid being transformed by the world, but
instead to seek transformation by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:2)1 This course has
been part of the process of allowing God to renew my mind and transform me into His image.
Having a good understanding of what you believe and why you believe it is important for every
Christian, but especially for someone who hopes to go into Biblical Counseling like I do. At the
beginning of this course, I had a general understanding of the basic orthodox beliefs of the
Christian faith, and I understood the larger theological points and the broader narrative we see in
the Bible. I did not, however, have a deep understanding of many of the various strains of
thought nor the many heresies that arose over the course of the last 2,000 years. Studying these
things has helped me better assess and deconstruct some of my remaining misunderstandings,
while simultaneously building my knowledge back up with orthodox beliefs.
Moving forward, I hope to integrate the things I have learned here into my personal walk
with Christ, as well as my future career as a Biblical Counselor. Having a robust understanding
of the narrative of the Bible as well as the foundational doctrines of the Christian faith is vital for
a Biblical Counselor. The knowledge I gained in this course will be important if I am to meet
someone where they are at in their current circumstance and point them to the Gospel and to
Christ while I am counseling them. Not only that but I must also strive to know and understand
the Gospel in an ever-deepening way for my own personal sanctification and growth. The Bible
states in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ
who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved

me and gave himself for me.” Not only do I hope to bring this beautiful truth to my future
clients, but I will continue to preach it to myself daily.
