Short Reflection Paper 1
Studying theology is not something that I have done to a full extent in the past such as
taking a theology class, however I have studied theology mildly in bible studies and Sunday
school classes at my home church. While participating in these studies and classes I do not think
I realized that I was studying theology; I do not think I even knew what theology meant at the
time. My motivation for attending these classes was to get involved in the church in order to
learn more about God and Christianity. But looking back on it now, I did get a taste of
theology in these classes. I studied the nature of God and how God calls us to live. So I did gain
benefits and the core of my Christian faith is really grounded in what I learned there, grounded
in
theology. I have learned that God is a loving, almighty, perfect God who calls us to live for Him.
I have also learned that we are to be light in the darkness and lead others to Him.
Though I did study a little bit of theology growing up, I still have a long way to go and
have a lot more to learn. This class is making me more aware of what theology is and why it is
so important, so I will be able to start applying it to my life. There is so much about God and the
bible that I still do not understand but I think that taking time to study theology will help answer
some of my questions. I know that the more I learn, the bigger the impact it will have on my
walk with the Lord, and on my life. Studying theology goes hand in hand with studying the
bible, which will allow me to know more about who God is. Studying theology will also help
me to know exactly what I believe in and why I believe it. That is something that is very
important not only for myself but also because in order to be a light and a witness to others, I

need to really know what I believe and why. I believe that truly knowing theology will
overall give me a stronger and greater desire for God.
