Essay Tia C. Hill
Introduction
The Bible is unified in nature. It is one of the most unique books ever written. The Bible is made
up of 66 small books, written by about 40 different authors with thousands of miles between
them. It was written over the span of 2,000 years. With all of these differences, the Bible still
remains consistent with its message, God’s eternal plan. God uses the authors, some kings,
scholars, and others were fishermen, just to name a few professions, to tell his story from the
creation, the fall, the redemption and new creation. The Bible has many human authors, but 1
divine Author, and God never contradicts Himself.
God the Father: The All-Powerful Creator
One of the most substantial theological beliefs that demonstrate the unity and coherence of
Scripture is the doctrine that God is the Creator of all things and that He is the only God. In the
Old Testament, Genesis 1:1, Moses writes “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the
earth.” (ESV) Literally, the first verse of the Bible tells us that nothing or no one but God created
everything. Later in the Old Testament, Isaiah 44:24 read “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out
the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself” (ESV) These Scriptures prove that God is the
creator of everything that exists. In Isaiah 43:10, it reads “You are my witnesses,” declares the
Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand
that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me. (ESV) There is only
one God and He is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. As we travel to the New Testament,
the belief that there is only one God is proven again. In 1 Corinthians 8:5-6, Paul the Apostle
writes “For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are
many “gods” and many “lords”— yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all
things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and
through whom we exist.” This Scripture shows God being the one and only and the creator. God
continuously shows us through His Word that there is no one above Him and no one like Him.
Hell is Real and Eternal
Another theological belief that demonstrates the unity and coherence is that Hell is a real place.
In a previous assignment, I discussed how many people (Christians included) would like to
imagine everyone going to heaven for eternal life. That is simply not the case. Hell is real, and
unfortunately, there are people who will spend eternal life there. Matthew 25:41 reads, “Then he
will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the
devil and his angels.” (ESV) Verse 46 then reads, “Then they will go away to eternal
punishment, but the righteous to eternal life”. Hell is indeed eternal punishment for those of us
who chose not to obey God. Revelation 19:20 also gives insight that Hell is real. It reads “And
the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by
which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its
image.
These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.” I believe it is hard for
us Christian to believe that such an evil place really exists. In the words of Mr. Richard
Otterman “If Jesus is real — and he is very real — then hell is real too. You can't have one
without the other,” (Davich, 2015)
Conclusion
The Bible is the most amazing and unique books ever created. Only God could create such unity,
even though the Bible was written by so many different author, all who come from different
walks of life. You can find the same truths stated by Moses and the Old Testament prophets,
Christ Himself, and Christ’s apostles. (Chaffey, 2011) God is the true Author of the Bible. The
Bible never contradicts itself. God’s story is told perfectly in the unity of the Scripture of the
Bible. It tells the story of God’s eternal plan the fulfillment of that plan.
