My connotation to the word to theology is the study of God and his word. I think it all boils
down to building a better relationship with God. Spending the time to read the Bible and talking
among your religious peers all help strengthen the bond we have with God. People interpret the
same religious beliefs and the word of the Bible in many different ways. I think it is important to
study the different ideas and theories that could come from this because it could better help
understand the different ways in understanding how God works. Unlike other ‘ologies’,
psychology, biology, etc., theology has more emotion behind it than the others. Most are based
solely on facts and the things you can prove, while the study of God is more what you believe.
Some believe more than others. It’s more of a belief, you have to believe in order to better your
understanding of the religion. It’s not a study you can really be bias on because in order to
fully be able to study, you have to believe, to understand why we feel as strongly as we do and
how and why it has a big impact on our lives. Why we allow it and what causes us to dedicate
time and efforts into it.
The only other experience I have had with the study of theology in the past was within the
church and Bible study. I haven’t took a class of took time to actually dedicate to the study of
theology itself. I think Bible study is the closest nearest thing to theology, so based on that I have
very positive experiences with theology. When in groups I feel like it helps you understand the
Bible even more when you are hearing the perspectives of your peers. I think it is always
important to understand things from all angles and by reflecting off the others that share the
same religious beliefs as you encourages this. It helps you better understand something that you
might have questions with or something that you feel is off, you can share those concerns and
more than likely your study group will help you understand. Going to church itself helps because
hearing testimonies and in the different ways that Gods word guided other people give you an
eye opening event that you can apply in your own life. Hearing from other people what God has
done for them helps you be more grateful for everything he has done for you and shows you
how amazing and powerful he truly is.
From this course, I want to better my understanding of my religion in a different aspects.
I’ve never took a religious class to learn about the study of my religion so I think it would be
good to see how it would influence my understanding and if there is any change to my
perspective. I believe that with all of the confusion between people lately, especially on how the
Bible says to handle political issues, continuing education and adding new ways to think of these
ideas will do everyone some good. To be able to have another form of thinking and also to help
understand to ideas of others. To be able to work better with others, trying to understand and
accept their theories is a big plus. I think it is always important to keep learning and bettering
your connections to God so I think studying the study of him will allow me to see my religion
from a different perspective. It more than just a passing grade, it’s stuff I hope to be able to
apply to my everyday life and more importantly, my relationship with God, my church, and also
be able to bring new ideas to Bible studies.
