Theo 104 PRESENTATION Notes Week 2
Does the Bible have authority. Does the Word of God have authority in our life? First, the
Bible is a revelation. God guarantees a message. Revelation is talking about the message in the
Bible. Inspiration. All scripture is given by inspiration. Inspiration means God-breathed. God
breathed upon His book. We take that to mean that the Bible is accurate. It is accurate. Every
work is accurate. But when I say it is God-breathed, He breathed His life in the book. The more
His life controls you.
The third word is the word canon. Means… should we have 67 books or is 66 books correct.
Think in terms of a rod or king’s scepter. Ruler or yard stick as the standard of measurement.
Preservation. God inspired the Bible original autograph. The original documents that God
inspired. Is this the Bible that we have? Yes it is.
Inerrancy means accuracy. Not only inspired it, but it is accurate.
10 Reasons:
1. The Bible is the Word of God because of its unique revelation of the person of Jesus
Christ. Jesus claims to be God, I am that I am. He let people worship Him. He forgave
sin. The Father and I are one. You are looking at Jesus Christ when you are looking at
the Bible. Rejects: liar, lunatic or recognize Him as the Lord. If any man invented
Christ, why has he not invented another? Or why has he not improved Christ? When we
talk about Jesus Christ… man could not have written the Bible if given the ability or
opportunity. It is so profound that with all the ability of man, we cannot come up with a
book that would put us in hell.
2. The extraordinary claims that the Bible is from God. The Bible claims to be the Bible.
God is truthful and He would have to say that He wrote the Book. There must be a
message from God, Jesus can’t be from sinful people. Must be a unique message that
demands a unique form of communication. It must be a message that gives a message for
credibility. Must be reliable.
3. Bible is the Bible because it predicts the future. The empirical evidence of the fulfillment
of prophecy. No one knows the future except for God. God is past, present, future. He
knows the future and can predict the future. 2 historical anchors give credibility to the
Bible. 1947 boy was near the Dead Sea. Boy broke something. Found the dead sea
scrolls. What he sold for $5 was later sold for 5 million. Complete copy of the Word of
God. Pushed the date of the Old Testament to 300 or 400 years before Christ. Daniel
predicted 4 coming world empires before they got there. Persia, Greece, Rome. Second
thing Septuatist. 270 AD. Prediction of Jesus and empires must be a supernatural book.
4. The convicting, convincing, converting power of the message. Used to cuss all the time.
When conftonted Jesus, he gave me a new nature. Taught not to curse. Believe the
Bible because of what it has done for me.
5. By the inexhaustible infinity of the revelation. Gospel of John seems so simple. John is
so simple. Jesus said the Father and I are one. It’s like a pool. Not knowing it is 100
feet deep. The Bible is so deep that you can never get to the bottom of it and still be
simple.
6. The unity of the message from different human sources. Get the impression that one man
wrote that Bible 39, 40 authors. From 66 books of the Bible separated by 1,600 years.
Difference between the novels from American Revolution and today. Things change, but
the Bible didn’t. Written over 1200 miles. Geographical differences, but Bible has dual
authorship. At least 35 authors over 1300 miles. Different authors, social background.
One message – jesus and the salvation of the world. Dual authorship. God and Holy
Spirit writing together.
7. Transcultural appeal of the message. Crosses into all the world.
8. Translatableness of the Bible. Translated into all languages.
9. Immesurable superiority of the Bible. Subjective argument.
10. Pragmatic test experience. It does what it says it will do.
The Bible is the Word of God.
