What is a worldview?
Definition
According to the Oxford online dictionary, the term worldview means, “a particular philosophy
of life or conception of the world” (Oxford Learner's dictionaries | find definitions, translations,
and ...). This meaning, how one perceives the world around them and the morals created by this
philosophy that guide them. There are three prominent worldviews, naturalism, pantheism, and
Theism. As for Christians, there is a dominant philosophy of life, which is Theism, or “the belief
that God exists” (Weider & Gutieerez, pg 63). Each worldview persuades an individual to follow
different moral values. (Word Count: 88)
The Question of Origin
The Origin story for the universe is found in Genesis 1:1 stating, “The Lord created the Heavens
and the Earth….” (Taylor & Taylor, 1978). God took seven days to create everything in
existence. On the first day he created light. The second day he created the atmosphere/
firmament. By the third day God created the dry grounds and plants. On the fourth day the sun,
moon, and stars were created and put into the sky. Next, on the fifth day, the Lord created all of
the birds and sea creatures. Then, on the sixth he made all land animals and humans. Yet, on the
seventh day, the Lord rested. It is found in 2 Peter 1:21 that we are unsure how humanity has
come to pass, therefore God has chosen prophets that speak through him (Taylor & Taylor,
1978).
The Question of Identity
Being a human means displaying free will, yet using our empathetic hearts to use that freewill
for good. It’s human nature to care for one another. An example of this can be found in Proverbs
11:17 (Taylor & Taylor, 1978). To be a human means to be in command of all living things.

God has given us authority over all animals and living things. God gave the Earth to humans to
provide for our needs. Some scripture examples of this authority can be found in Luke 10:19,
Genesis 1:26, and Roman 13:1 (Taylor & Taylor, 1978).
The Question of Meaning/Purpose
“The ultimate purpose of man is to glorify God”, which can be found in Isaiah 43:7 and many
other scriptures (Taylor & Taylor, 1978). God gave us the Earth to reach other humans and
glorify God together. We are to tell the ends of the Earth about God, The Father, and The Holy
Spirit. We are supposed to “serve the Lord with gladness” and thanksgiving as it says to do in
Psalms 100:2–4 (Taylor & Taylor, 1978). We are to live a life of faithfulness and loyalty to God,
along with being obedient to the Lord and his commands. All of these instructions can be found
in 1 Samuel 12:24, Genesis 1:26-27, and Ecclesiastes 12:13-14. Compelling Truth states, “In our
natural sinful state, we are unable to glorify God, but thanks to Jesus Christ’s sacrifice of His
own life, we have reconciled relationship with God” (Christian Truth).
The Question of Morality
The Bible tells us to live a life as Jesus did. Jesus gave us clear examples of right from wrong
that we should follow in our daily lives. In Matthew 5:48, scripture tells us to live a perfect life
like our Father in Heaven (Taylor & Taylor, 1978). We can surround ourselves with good
examples of this like 1st Corithians 15:33 hints to about.
The Question of Destiny
The perfect evidence to what happens after we die is found in John 11:25 - 26. Jesus speaks to a
woman and says that we will never die if we believe in him. After death on Earth there will be n
more pain and sadness as Revelation 21:4 reveals to us. (Word Count 503)

How might/should a biblical worldview influence the way you……
…..think about and treat a person who doesn’t hold your beliefs?
If you are a Christian who believes in a forgiving and loving God then of course you
should give love and forgiveness to those who do not believe. A Biblical Worldview helps to
give an empathetic spirit to those who don’t choose to share your beliefs. Living a life like Christ
is loving everyone equally, even those who are not like us. Reminders of this can be found in
Colossians 3:17 (Taylor & Taylor, 1978). Not only should we forgive and love them, yet we
should also go out of our way to pray for them and their wellbeing. In James 5:16 scripture
guides us to “confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed”
(Taylor & Taylor, 1978). We pray for those who are sick, we pray for those who are lost, and we
pray for those who are suffering. (Word Count: 149)
…..vote in local or national elections?
As Christians we are to follow the commandments. One of them being to obey the laws
of the land. In Romans 13:1-7 we are reminded of this. Therefore, we must be a part of electing
our leaders. If we have agreed to respect and obey them then we must use our rights to put the
right people in office with that persuasive power. We must be careful to keep the Biblical
Worldview of candidates in perspective when voting in elections. In Psalm 33:12 it states that if
we were to put Godly people in the place of power, we would be blessed in our nation to do
good. (Word Count: 110)
