Religion 104: Christian Life and Biblical Worldview
November 20, 2017
A worldview is a person’s overall perspective on the world which shapes the way that
individual behaves and makes decisions. Worldview is derived from the German word
weltanschauung which translates directly to “world view.” Every choice a person makes is
directly affected by their personal worldview. There are many different types of worldviews but
none are exclusive. A person can share some worldview characteristics with another and have a
different worldview than someone else. They are also non-exclusive. One may have many
different views and ideas from multiple worldviews, all combined to fit their personal
worldview. 96 words.
When dealing with the question or origin, the biblical worldview states that God is the
creator of everything. It is stated in the entire first chapter of Genesis, but is also mentioned
numerous times throughout the rest of the Bible, Psalms 90:2 and John 1:1-3.
According to a biblical worldview, to be human is to do the will of the Lord. Humans are
more important than animals because although all forms of life were created by God, humans
were created in the image of God, with the intention of controlling and subduing animals. This is
spoken of in Genesis 1:26-27 and 9:2.
The purpose of life is “about having a personal intimate relationship with God through
His Son, Jesus Christ.” (Weiter and Gutierrez 2013, 70) The Bible states similar foundational
principals in John 17:3 and later again in verse 24 of the same chapter.
Right and wrong is not a set list of responses. In certain situations, the right or wrong
answer may vary based on even minor detail changes. In a Biblical worldview, Christians look to
the Bible in order to differentiate between right and wrong and moral and immoral. Morality
also is decided by the Word of God through the scripture. Multiple times in the Bible, we are
told that the scripture is from God and not from man, 2 Timothy 3:16 and 2 Peter 1:20-21, and
that the Bible is how we decide morality and what is right or wrong.
The question of destiny is one of the most important when dealing with the biblical
worldview. For this specific worldview there are two options, heaven or hell. In Revelation
20:11-15, the Word talks about being judged based on your actions and morality, and being sent
into hell or heaven. The word also describes the two destinations heaven in Revelation 21:1-7
and hell in Isaiah 24:22. 308 words.
The Bible is a detailed set of guidelines for living in the mind of Christ. Throughout the
entire Bible, there are many examples of how God intended for us to live. Matthew 7:12 says
“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them:
for this is the law and the prophets,” saying the popular “golden rule,” treat others how you
would like to be treated. The Bible even addresses how to act towards others through most of
the ten commandments given to Moses from God in Exodus 20. Additionally, the Bible has
multiple instances in which we are instructed in how to treat nature and the environment
around us. As God’s creation, we are to care for the Earth and other creations that the Lord has
blessed us with. In Genesis 2:15 we are told about how man was placed in the Garden of Eden
to tend to and care for the other living things and creatures. “A righteous regardeth the lifeman
of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked cruel. He that tilleth his land shall be are
satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain void of understanding.” (Proverbs persons is
12:10-11) We are charged to care for and nurture other living things, but that does not
necessarily mean that it isn’t also there for our use. The Bible isn’t instructing us to not use
animals as food or resources, but simply to be good stewards of these creatures because they,
like us were also created by God. 262 words.
