Why do I Believe What I Believe?
As a Christian my mission is to spread the gospel to others, this concept is stated in Mark
16: 15, I need to, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (New
International Version). If I do not have a proper understanding of what I believe, I cannot convey
my beliefs to others. “The solution to this problem is for believers to become informed in
doctrine, the history of their faith, philosophy, logic, and other disciplines as they relate to
Christianity.” (Powell, 2006, p. 6). Becoming well informed about all aspects of what I believe
equips me to effectively articulate this information to others and gives me the ability to back up
what I believe.
When we claim Christianity, we are saying that "our" beliefs are built on the foundation
of a Biblical worldview. “This means that above all else, the Bible is the soil from which our
worldview grows.” (Hinson, Etzel, & Gutierrez, 2016, p. 9). I believe that God is the one and
only living God and the creator of all things. He sent his only Son Jesus to die on the cross for
our sins, giving humanity an opportunity to reconcile with him. I believe God is a part of the
Trinity of Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit and the Bible is “God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,” (2 Timothy 3:16). I believe that the
word of God is the only truth and it is essential for the development of a personal relationship
with Christ. I apply these truths to my life daily, and faithfully believe that God will continue to
deliver on his promises to me.

You did well in laying out why we should know the what and why of our beliefs. I agree
with you that in order to effectively communicate and defend our beliefs to others we must be
well informed about what we believe and why we believe it. the Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 2:15,
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth." (King James Version). The word of God also tells us that showing
true love to others is essential for our Christian worldview to effectively display our belief in
Christ. John 13:35 it tells us, " By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have
love one to another.” We are living epistles of Christ, in other words, we may be the only "Bible"
non-believers have ever been exposed to. No matter how knowledgeable we are in the things of
God or how convincing and effective our arguments are in defense our faith, if we are not
walking out those beliefs in our daily lives we are just delivering lip service. I enjoyed your post
and pray for your success in this course.
