(ED)?
To determine if a child has emotional disturbance, you must look at
certain characteristics that appear as a psychological disorder or trouble
in effectively navigating their surroundings. These traits can be
grouped into six different categories. These categories are if a child
struggles with learning, has challenges in social development, shows
difficulty expressing emotions, has aggressive behavior, a tendency for
inappropriate conduct, and having intense mood swings.

Describe each level.
RTI is short for Response to Intervention. It is a three-step approach to
support students.
The first step, Tier 1, is essential in determining if a student is at risk or
is already showing signs of behavioral issues. Tier 1 is proactive; it is
useful in giving students the support they need to prevent bigger issues
later on.
Tier 2 is the use of targeted interventions to address emotional and
behavioral issues that a student may be facing. It is all about tailoring
the right support to meet the students’ needs.
Tier 3 is the highest level of support. The interventions are intense and
are reserved for situations where Tier 2 interventions have not shown
any improvement.

It is often difficult to notice internalizing behaviors, such as depression
and anxiety, in children with an Emotional Disturbance (ED).

behavior. With the use of data
collected through different ways,
it will help to determine the
students’ antecedents and
consequences. Using this will
narrow down to show the
function of the target behavior.
6. How can one assess
intervention
effectiveness?
There are four approaches to evaluate the effectiveness of an
intervention. These methods involve looking at graphs of data to see
changes, measuring significant changes in behavior using absolute
change, calculating a reliable change index or the percentage of non-
overlapping data points, estimating the side of the effect, and
evaluating shifts in social impact measures.
