To my esteemed future Dr. colleagues, I bid you good evening . For most,
if not all of us, this is our second time "around the track" of reading
Johnson (2010). It is by far a very interesting read. At the end of his book,
Johnson (2010) states, "For the Christian, the science of psychology and
the art of counseling are fundamentally religious enterprises, as is all of
life" (p. 311). To begin to contemplate the aforementioned quote, I share
a Scripture that says, "Without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in
the multitude of counsellors they are established" (Proverbs 15:22, KJV).
In other words, plans of life will fail where there is no counsel, but with
abundant advisors, they are established or successful.
One might look at this in the research topic of suicide where oftentimes,
the person who completes suicide is without wise counsel/counseling. A
prudent Psychologist would listen and preemptively help such a person to
contemplate alternatives rather than completing the act of suicide. In the
research area of suicide, one of the foundational Scriptures of life would
be, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it
more abundantly" (John 10:10b, KJV). Abundant life on earth is a
precursor to having life abundant in Heaven, for all eternity. Johnson
(2010) seems to state that for the Christian, research of psychology and
counseling go hand-in-hand for all aspects of life, in the religious aspects
of such. 
On a personal note, I feel as though my research will look at the topic of
suicide through a Biblical worldview, Biblical/Scriptural lens and my
Christian convictions. To further add to this, I will add new thoughts on
this research topic through the eyes of wise counsel and looking at
research that has been done before, and reflect on those studies
comparatively with my own.
