According to Sproul (2000), theoretical thought came into existence, even
before the famous philosopher, Socrates and it has been discussed in
depth even after Socrates’ time on earth ended. However, people are still
familiar with the common thought leader, Socrates. Similarly, the Johnson
text (2010) highlights the amount of Christian thinkers that ponder
concepts ranging from human existence to psychological matters. The
difference is that many have been diving into the school of Psychology
more in depth recently (Johnson, 2010). )
The direction in which I feel led to become a “thought leader” is not a new
area, such as those that came before Socrates, or Christians that have
contemplated existence and psychological concepts. Additionally, it will
continue to be in existence even long after my time has passed; however,
I still feel a strong pull in that direction, such as the Christians that still
express curiosity and involvement in the psychological school of thought.
However, I still hope that my legacy lives on, as Socrates’ has.
My goal is to obtain my Ph.D. in Psychology and use the degree in
combination with my bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education as a
thought leader. I feel led to teach psychology to some extent, such as at
the collegiate level. In order to teach the content to a higher level, I need
to have gleaned a certain level of expertise in psychology, which is what I
am currently working towards. As an educator, I do not prescribe to the
same teaching methods as others, such as lecturing to students daily;
therefore, my contribution to the field differs.
In my experience in the education field, most people have gotten their
ideas about education from their prior experiences. Many either had a
great experience with the way in which they obtained an education or
they had a more difficult experience, which allowed them to gain ideas on
what education should and/or should not be. Additionally, people have
gained information regarding some topics in psychology from pop culture,
media, communication with others, and/or personal experience. However,
there is more to understanding the field of psychology than just what is
presented in the media. Furthermore, there are various ways to teach
content. Therefore, I hope to become a thought leader in the education
field of psychology and make a difference in that field.
