Aggression and Prejudice
Hostile aggression - This was demonstrated by the husband of the woman who was
trampled on, bleeding in the process. The aggression manifested in the husband harming one of
the young men.
Instrumental aggression - This was demonstrated by the young men that forced their way
through the stairway, pushing fellow pedestrians.
2 The demonstration of aggressive behavior is influenced by both nature and nurture
factors. Nature factors are genetic and biologic which control our hormonal response in
expressing aggression, nurture are those of culture and circumstances. Aron (2019) says
aggression is inherited but the manner of its expression and scale are influenced by nurture.
3 Mitchell’s reaction would be more aggressive, this is line with the culture - not losing
face - in the Southern state thus his retaliation.
4 Aggression is related to social status through relative deprivation, such that frustration
is triggered when attainment of one’s goals are unfulfilled or not satisfactory when comparing
oneself to others. A middle-class person that’s success- driven, for example, can become
aggressive as a result of poor accomplishments (Meyers & Twenge, 2019).

5 The Bobo Doll experiment conducted by Albert Bandura, in summary, is the exposure
of minors to acts of aggression performed by adults on the Bobo doll and the concomitant effects
on them. The effect manifests the relative ease these minors are willing to carry out similar acts;
outright mimicry so to speak. The significance of this study is that imitating someone, or an act
promotes observational learning, a credible evidence that aggression is a social learning behavior
(Meyers & Twenge, 2019).
6 Indulgence in alcohol would impair Pat’s cognitive and motor abilities. And this lack of
control would result in fatal consequences.
7 I would assume Pat to be a male because the crimes, linked to aggression, are usually
male - dominated. In males, increased testosterone levels fuel aggressive behaviors.
8 people’s behaviors and attitudes are usually influenced by their environment and
children automatically pick theirs from their respective environments. Pat’s behavior is learned
one can say, and many channels are available for this; consumption of media contents with
excessive violence is one.
9 Aggressive behaviors can be triggered because of frustrations from pain and personal
discomforts. Mental anguish, pain and personal discomfort can always lead to aggressive
behaviors.

10 I disagree with placing ban on violent movies and television programs, it is a sign of
trying to stifle individual rights and choices. However, while it is impractical, banning
consumption of such movies is a reasonable option. Myers and Twenge (2019) say exposure to
violent media and movies can affect one’s social - cognitive development.
11 I disagree with this statement. Yes, there is freedom of choices, but good and bad
choices do affect others around. Curtailing people’s exposure to violet media contents can help
reduce consequences from such. The enactment of relevant laws on exposure to and violence in
media contents can help with further curtailment.

Provocation
Use of alcohol
Aggressive or anger prone personalities
Being male
Violence viewing
Anonymity
Presence of weapons
13 According to Myers & Twenge, reduction of cyber bullying is a collective effort from
both parents and teachers requiring children being monitored. Educating children to understand

acts considered bullying will also help. And this will forge the idea of what bullying is and
probable consequences for such.
14 The style of parenting helps to curtail aggressive in children. Children can become
aggressive adults if parents are lenient. A form and authoritative parenting approach can
engender in children, helping them to approach their wrong actions (Gershoff, 2022).
15 There is a connection between anger and aggression. Aggression is mainly expressed
physically, and anger, on the hand, reflects how a person feels or how his mood is affected.
According to Myers and Twenge, (2019), aggression primarily inflicts psychological or
physical discomfort, thus parents and teachers need to resolve to teach nonaggressive conflict
resolution. Managing anger or aggression can be effective with responding in a calm, non-
judgmental manner.
