Wisdom and Truth
Wisdom in the Bible is one of the humans' most valuable attributes. Wisdom is different
from knowledge, and a person can know many things on earth but still lacks wisdom. On the
other hand, truth is a term used to refer to reality. Both wisdom and truth are related because a
person who is not wise cannot judge the truth concerning particular issues. Wisdom is not got
from schools, but life experiences, and even the Bible through the Proverbs and Ecclesiastes
supports the idea that it is essential to investigate life to find wisdom and truth. For instance,
in the Holy Bible, Proverbs 17: 24 states that "wisdom is before him that hath understanding;
but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth" means that having the wisdom understand
the world (Holy Bible, 2010). Likewise, understanding the world makes a person know the
truth about many phenomena in the world. On the other hand, according to the sayings, a fool
refers to those who lack wisdom and view things lightly. Arldelt (2004) also supports the
argument by saying that wisdom cannot be compared to expertise. This also goes hand in hand
with the idea that people need to investigate life to find wisdom and truth since wisdom is
acquired through life lessons but not through books. Still on the same issues, the book of
Ecclesiastes 12:13, which says that "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God,
and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of a man," means that livings spiritual
guided life and taking time to investigate matters before rushing to the conclusion is the true
reflection of wisdom (Holy Bible, 2010).
