Motivation, values, and purpose
The application of Motivation in psychology, particularly in learning, can be
characterized by and not limited to intrinsic and extrinsic Motivation (George et al., 2023). Both
extrinsic and intrinsic motivation are my major motivations in my educational pursuits. Extrinsic
Motivation is a type of Motivation that comprises external sources of rewards such as rewards
and avoiding punishment. Besides, extrinsic Motivation is driven by external sources that make
people change their behavior to achieve desirable results. External rewards are primary sources
of extrinsic Motivation that might include being given gifts after an exemplary performance in
school (George et al., 2023). External rewards are vital in making students work extra smart to
get presents. Sometimes when I am promised a gift by my parents or teachers in case I improve
my grades, I make sure that I do my best to achieve better results. Moreover, avoiding
punishment is another motivating factor that makes me adopt educational and behavioral
discipline to avoid punishment. Nevertheless, my most valuable Motivation is intrinsic
Motivation. Intrinsic Motivation is more of a personal motivation that ensures personal
satisfaction and fulfillment. This kind of Motivation is not limited to external sources, making it
sustainable since it is not dependent on other external factors.
Consequently, values and purpose might inform an individual's experience through
passion, mission, vocation, and profession (George et al., 2023). Purpose can be typically defined
as individuals' personal contributions to the universe. It can also entail the reasons for being who
they are. The purpose is achieved through passion, where individuals involve themselves in
things they enjoy doing, which primarily bring glory to God. Besides, purpose and value are
ensured through profession and vocation, which mainly comprise individuals getting involved in
activities from which they get a source of income. These activities must be ethical and in line
with God's teachings. Therefore, living sources should observe moral values as outlined in God's
teachings in the Bible. This makes Biblical teachings the foundation for achieving life's purpose
for human beings. Moreover, individuals can achieve purpose and value through the mission
(George et al., 2023). The mission entails what the world needs, primarily comprising what
individuals do to benefit the Universe (George et al., 2023). With a combination of passion,
mission, profession, and vocation, an individual's value and purpose in life are achieved. These
factors are a combination of what the universe has to offer and what human beings have to give
to the world. Thus making purpose and value achieve a balance between human beings and the
universe.
