Evolutionary Psychology Assignment
Christianity is the basis of many worldviews throughout time, as well as my own. It
holds that the Living God created the universe and everything it contains and continues to guide
and control its workings (English Standard Version Bible, 2016, Genesis 1:1). Evolutionary
Psychology comes from the scientific theory of evolution; that all current species in existence are
the result of small changes over time deriving from the same original species (George, 2023, p.
36). These views, at their foundation, are in opposition; one is based on change, the other on
design. The question becomes, is it possible that parts of evolutionary psychology can be
incorporated into the Christian worldview?
My personal worldview, similar to the majority of people, began developing throughout
the early stages of my childhood; it was heavily influenced by both of my parents, who had
raised me with Christian beliefs, which I continue to hold in high value. However, as I continued
to grow and mature, I slowly began formulating my own worldview via reading the Bible and
through real world experience, rather than relying on my parents telling me how one should be
viewing the world but striving to remain open minded to other ideologies; in short, my personal
world view is evolving.
Microevolution is a scientific facet that can be incorporated into Christianity Intelligent
Design and Evolution as well as my worldview. For example, life expectancy has changed
throughout the ages. The book of Genesis states “The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were
800 years, and he had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days that Adam lived were 930
years” then later on in Genesis 25:7, “These are the days of the years of Abraham’s life, 175
years” (English Standard Version Bible, 2016, Genesis 5:4-5, 25:7), while today the average life
expectancy is 76 years (Shmerling, 2022). History gives us other examples of human knowledge

and understanding going through cycles of enlightenment and decline. Ancient Romans were
renowned for their plumbing, but by the Middle Ages sewage was poured into the streets, only
for indoor plumbing to again become popular in the mid-1800s. In light of these and other
evidence, I believe that microevolution exists when set in the constructs of God’s designs, not
random changes. As Einstein stated, “Science without religion is lame, religion without science
is blind” after all, God created science when he created the world.
The Christian beliefs I hold reasons that the Living God created the universe and
continues to guide and control its working. In contrast evolutionary psychology argues that all
current species are the result of small changes over time deriving from the same original species.
Microevolution is a scientific facet that can be incorporated into Christianity intelligent design,
evolution, and my personal world view through examples such as life expectancy has changed
throughout the ages. Einstein reasons how one cannot rely on just religion or science alone and
that one must use a combination of both.
