If I were to lead a Freshman Seminar for incoming students, I would be 100% honest
with them about the good and bad experiences they will go through. I would start my
presentation off by going into detail and emphasize the importance of studying, whether it is for
a test, assignment, essay, or notes. I would encourage them not to worry or stress over what the
"right" way to study is, because there are many different studying strategies to choose from and
that they would be able to pick which one suits their needs best. Also, encourage them to stay
focused and manage their time with a schedule, so they have time for fun and studying without
falling behind. Most of the time when starting college students will start great in their classes but
soon start to fall behind in their studies. This can be caused by multiple things such as, getting
caught up in college life and spending more time out having fun, not putting enough time aside
for completing homework or studying, or not taking the time to understand and learn studying
strategies to improve overall knowledge.
When wanting to find a study strategy that works best for you, first, you need to focus
on your memory and understand how it works. Memory is the mental process of encoding,
