The world leaders met with one another in 1989 and made the decision to protect
the children all around the world and their rights by creating an international legal
standard which is known as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child

stated that children are an individual with their own rights, free from their parent(s) and
that they are not their parents’ objects. . Children are protected the Convention until Id by

“grow, learn, play, develop, and flourish with dignity.” Id. During February of 1995,
President Bill Clinton signed the U.S. on the Convention but made the decision to not
submit it to the Senate since so many members of Congress were opposed to the

President George W. Bush let it be known that he did not agree with the Convention
because the CRC contradicted laws in the United States surrounding the rights of family
