Psychosis Case Study
Chief complaint: "I am hearing voices in my head "
SUBJECTIVE:
HPI: A male of 32-year-old is coming to the office today accompanied by his mother
complaining that has been heard voices for the past 2 months. The patient has auditory
hallucinations related to his housemates.
Auditory hallucinations are a type of hallucination in which a person hears sounds, voices, or
noises that are not actually present in the environment. If a patient is experiencing auditory
hallucinations, it is important to seek professional medical attention immediately.
Auditory hallucinations can be a symptom of several conditions, including schizophrenia, bipolar
disorder, depression, substance abuse, and certain neurological disorders. A healthcare
professional will conduct a thorough evaluation to determine the underlying cause of the
auditory hallucinations and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
Treatment for auditory hallucinations may involve medication, therapy, or a combination of
both. Antipsychotic medications can be effective in treating hallucinations associated with
schizophrenia, while antidepressants may be used to treat hallucinations associated with
depression. Cognitive-behavioral therapy can also be helpful in managing auditory hallucinations
by helping patients identify and challenge their thoughts and beliefs related to the hallucinations.
