As a result of this course and your experience as a nurse, share your level of confidence with nursing
research. What value do you see nursing research adds to the field of nursing? What is your role in
nursing research, at the graduate level?
Your thread is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday, and your replies are due by 11:59 p.m. (ET)

Admittedly, I was not looking forward to this course as I did not enjoy nursing research
classes in my undergraduate studies. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the content and
design of this specific graduate level research course. I have always understood the concept that
research in nursing practice is important in being able to maintain evidenced based practices in
our field. Even more important is that the individuals involved in research are able to conduct it
properly, using the correct methods and use of statistics (Aloweni, Teh, Tan, & Ang, 2017),
which is something I was never able to really master. If research is not performed methodically,
the validity of the study becomes compromised. Through this course and the way in which it is
set up, I was able to grasp the crucial concepts in what makes nursing research successful.
Research in the nursing field allows nurses to become innovators, creating better ways to
care for patients. As nurses, it is vital to participate in research in order to improve patient, nurse,
and facility outcomes (Ditomassi, Erickson, & Jones, 2016). Even further I believe that graduate
level nurses should become role models in conducting research, further encouraging associate
and bachelor prepared nurses to participate as well. With different levels of nurses conducting
research, we could surely make amazing changes to better our fields of nursing!
Throughout this course, we were tasked with creating a proposal for a research project. I
am excited to say that I will be fortunate enough to conduct the research outlined to my proposal
on my unit within this next year. I feel more confident than I have in the past in my knowledge of
what I need to do and how to analyze and understand the data I will collect. I also feel
encouraged by my nurse manager, who has expressed her confidence in my competency in
conducting this research to create positive experiences and outcomes for our laboring mothers.
Without proper research in nursing, our field would cease to grow and our patients and
the nurses around us would suffer tremendously. Research should be thought of as exciting and
innovative, rather than scary. My hope for the future is to become increasingly confident in my
research abilities and make important changes to nursing practice. I also hope to become a guide
for younger, less experienced nurses who are interested or may even see nursing research as
frightening, as I once did. Deuteronomy 31:6 proclaims Be strong and courageous. Do not be
afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you
nor forsake you.” (NIV) This verse resonates with me as I prepare to conduct my own research. I
know that the Lord will guide me through it and I must not be afraid anymore!
