Inquiry Final Essay
No matter which path of life you choose, there is always more that you can learn.
Research is essential when seeking out success, and inquiry has provided me with the best guide
to gathering those resources to make research successful. I wanted to dig deeper into how good
or bad leadership can directly affect business, especially Christian leadership. Leadership is such
a vital part of life, so it is important to talk about and grow in knowledge about it. I believe that
corporate corruption and unethical behavior is on the rise, and I continually would like to dig
deeper into why that is and how God works through his chosen leaders.
Research directly affects everything and everyone. I have learned so much from being in
this class and researching my topic of Christian leadership in the business world. My sources
always backed up their claims with verses straight from the bible about how God expects his
leaders to act. For example, “one of the most important communication skills we can develop is
becoming a better listener….James writes “My dear brother and sisters, take note of this:
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human
anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires” (James 1:19-20) (Irving and Strauss
119). The more that you read and study the Bible you understand that God gives us instructions
and examples of what he expects from his chosen leaders. Because of this evidence being
provided in God’s Word, my original opinion about Christian leadership was strengthened. It
confirmed that this is one of my primary interests that I want to keep learning about. My career
path is business and with going into the business world, I need to be able to differentiate between
good and bad leaders and know what to do if put in a leadership position. I love that I would be
able to show God through my leadership and display what He expects from leaders. “You are
what you love” is a perfect quote for this topic. If we are what we love and we truly live by that,
then we should show through our actions Jesus’s teachings.
Christian leadership not only applies to me but also to Liberty University. Leadership
roles are everywhere around campus, so jumping on opportunities in a group project or in a club
will further my knowledge about practicing Christian leadership concepts. Talking to different
leaders on campus can also help further my knowledge of knowing first hand how it is to be a
leader with a Biblical worldview. This topic can also enhance Liberty because it’s founded on
growing leaders and building up champions for Christ who are expected to go out into the world
and apply Biblical principles.This relates directly to my topic and how those attributes can
positively grow an organization. For example, “many have claimed that there are a number of
valuable benefits associated with organizational leaders integrating their spirituality in their
work, including: increased productivity, motivation, and creativity, overall performance, and job
satisfaction” (Chamiec-Case and Sherr 270).
I would like to continue my research on this topic during and beyond my undergraduate
career. I will continue researching by talking to leadership mentors, praying for leadership roles
in extracurriculars, and learning from experience. Beyond my undergraduate career will look a
lot different. I hope to become a leader of some sort in an organization as well as a leader in my
home. Both of these roles will push me into applying Biblical worldview in my leadership style.
Overall, my research will mainly come from the Bible itself. There are so many verses about
what godly leadership should look like. For example, Matthew 20:26 says “But among you it
will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.” I think that
this topic embraces stewardship. Christian stewardship can be described as looking after the
world for God as well as using our gifts that God gives us for his glory. Christian leadership
engulfs that idea of pushing the world more towards the Lord.
Overall, this inquiry and research process has benefited my wisdom on this important
topic. It definitely prepared me to engage in talking about this subject on a scholarly level since
all my sources and information were scholarly, peer reviewed sources. In doing research, I
learned all the different viewpoints as well as why Christian leadership could only benefit
humanity. When you look at history, God blesses what lifts him up and glorifies him. Treating
and leading people how Jesus did would only better society as a whole.
