PROGRAM PLAN 2
Background of the Problem:
Human behavior plays a great role when it comes to the maintenance as well as
prevention of various diseases for the elder population. Evidence has demonstrated that suitable
programs that are well planned can facilitate change in the health behavior of an individual.
1
Elderly adult nutrition (healthy diet), as well as physical activity, has become increasingly more
important and health information is being disseminated among the different groups of the
population. Nevertheless, overweight prevalence is being experienced among the working-aged
men in various Nordic countries, this is as high as 70 percent. The major reason as to why the
2
elderly people are becoming more overweight is because of sedentary lifestyles as well as the
unhealthy diets that are consumed. In Finland, for instance, fresh vegetable daily intake or rather
the intake of fruits, is estimated to be one-third for the aged working men.
However, despite the research and the known statistic concerning this segment, only a
small number of studies have established the ways of initiating as well as supporting the change
required in the health behaviors of men. When compared with the females, men are always
regarded as a population that is hard to reach. This is especially in initiating health behavior
programs because they normally have a lower propensity of seeking information related to their
health as well as engaging in various health-promoting behaviors. Additionally, gender is always
ignored in the various programs that advocate for healthy living with relatively very few
campaigns targeting and reaching men. Kaasalainen et al., (2015), illustrates further that,

despite the fact that there are several awareness campaigns that are being promoted by the mass
media, these campaigns are not sufficient and enough when it comes to changing as well as
