Data collection through questionnaires
The use of questionnaires is advantageous in various ways. First, they are easy to
conduct since it involves distributing the questionnaires to the intended respondents. There can
be more information when many respondents are involved. The structure of the questionnaires
allows the researcher to obtain both qualitative and quantitative data. To add to this,
questionnaires ensure broad coverage because they were available as hard copies and via the
web. The respondents could answer them from the comfort of their residences or operational
bases. It takes less time to fill the questionnaire than other methods, e.g., interviews (Peterson,
2000). The data obtained can prove or disprove the existing hypothesis, following the type and
content of questions contained in them.
However, there are no clarifications made for the questions deemed ambiguous. The
respondents also lack the motivation to provide answers owing to the partially unattractive style
and format of questionnaires. Improper wording in the questions may lead to incorrect responses
by the targeted respondents. Furthermore, the questionnaires may not be suitable for some
respondents owing to differences in educational levels and other factors (Rowley, 2010). This
leads to a low response rate which in turn transits into deficits in the data obtained. In this case,
there was an interview where one could understand the researcher very well.
